About Us

Mission Statement
To enrich the social, educational, and professional college experience of all civil engineering students with interest in geotechnical and geoenvironmental engineering.
Team Overview

GeoWall at Berkeley, we are the groundworks of engineering! It is a great way to connect with people, gain useful experiences, and learn about geotechnical and geoenvironmental engineering.
We imbibe our members with hands-on experiences through on-site geotechnical field trips, laboratory testing, and design/construction! In addition, we provide workshops such as CAD Design and FE Exam preparation, provide great networking opportunities with Geotechnical Companies, and so much more!
Every year comes with new challenges and new fun opportunities for growth in academia and industry. We welcome all students of all majors to join and be part of this team!
Why MSE Retaining Walls?
Retaining walls are used all over the world to hold large amounts of soil and groundworks together. Whether it is above ground construction or for underground soil retention, retaining walls are used in many applications universally. In addition, soil and dirt is amongst the most inexpensive and readily available construction/filler material out there, making it an effective expense reducer when designed and applied. Below we have diagrams of an anchored MSE wall, used to resist the lateral motion of the soil.

Laboratory Testing
In the Davis Hall Geotech Laboratory, members get to the opportunity to perform hand-on, interactive soil testing!
Whether it is performing triaxial shear testing, determining soil gradation, or hydraulic conductivity testing, GeoWall offers diverse opportunities to dive deeper into geotechnical and geoenvironmental in the lab!
Design and Construction
Applying the principals of soil mechanics, reinforcement properties, and retaining system mechanics, we design and construct our MSE walls and test them out in the O’Brien Hall Basement!
We use the blackboards, Sketch Up, AutoCAD, and Fusion to draft out our designs!
When we build our designs, we use any manner of tools to compact and densify our sands.
In short, hammer time!
Field Trips!
What’s better than having field trips! GeoWall offers our members exclusive opportunities to attend multiple field trips each year to experience and learn more about geotechnical engineering, live!
Whether it is a day of drilling, foundation work, or office visits, every member of GeoWall has the opportunity to go out explore the world of geotech, connect with industry leaders, and have fun!
